Prague, Czech Republic was the first city we visited in Europe. It was a magical city. The architecture, rich history and culture were all fascinating. On our first day, we went on a Prague City Tour. The tour consisted of a partial bus tour, walking tour and boat tour. Let me mention too, that is was also FREEZING out. If I remember correctly, the first day we were there, it was about 12 degrees. I learned my lesson about dressing warm that day after I couldn't feel my feet after about an hour outside. One of my favorite things about Europe is how they celebrate Christmas through January. In the Old Town Square, there was a Christmas market. The market was full of food stands, shops and all-things Christmas. It was STUNNING. Not to mention, there was a GIANT decorated Christmas tree that could have been featured in the movie, How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The city of Prague is separated by the Vlatava River. It made for a gorgeous view. During the tour, we visited the main cultural attractions including: The Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the Prague astronomical clock. As we approached the Prague Castle, I remember the most beautiful, large snowflakes starting to fall. These weren't any ordinary snowflakes either. There were like none I had ever seen before back in Indiana and only lasted 15 minutes at most. This blog is more of an overview of the city itself. I didn't want to spend too much time talking about the city because I want everyone to experience it for themselves. :)

I know it's now the middle of May and..... I traveled Europe in January. Around the time of my trip, I never had any intention of blogging about it. To be completely honest with you, I always thought blogs were a waste of time and energy. It wasn't until recently that my outlook and opinion on blogs changed. After spending a month in Europe studying the Holocaust and the Nazi occupation during WWII, I felt compelled and eager to share my stories. The majority of the trip was truly depressing. There were many days where I didn't think I could handle the information being taught to us. It was such a life-changing experience.
It's been five months since my trip; I get it. It just took some time to reflect on how truly incredible this journey was for me. These blog posts will be a mixture of lessons, history and adventures. My inspiration for writing these blogs were the wise and somewhat sad words of one of our tour guides. She said, " People don't learn about the Holocaust anymore. People are steering more and more away from it. You have a duty to keep the history going so people don't forget." I guess you could say that this is my way of doing it. Each blog post will be revolved about a certain place, experience, or day. |
